The Importance of Mental Health

My name is Alexandria and I am nineteen years old. I am still looking for my place in this world, but learning about psychology and mental health has changed my life for the better. I would like to use my blog to share with others about how I became a better person and a happier person.

I would like to bring awareness around the topic of mental health. I believe mental health is just as, or more, important than physical health. Although this is my belief, it is extremely hard to focus and prioritize mental health for most people with today’s society. This is something that needs to change.

Poor mental health can destroy your life. What is the point to life if you aren’t living happily? I hope this post can allow people to realize how important mental health is and try to prioritize it within their lives.

Growing up, I was very insecure and unhappy. I didn’t enjoy day-to-day life, and I didn’t look for reasons to enjoy small things. I have since learned to change my mindset, which has changed my life. I encourage all of you to try and change any negative thoughts you have and turning them into positive thoughts. A big thing that helped me was repetition. Repeating happy thoughts will help change your mindset. Also make it a habit to smile. I promise you, it will help. I made a list of words and phrases to repeat to myself or to remind myself regularly. An example of a phrase I said very frequently was “just because you see someone else beautiful doesn’t make you any less beautiful”. I said this to myself very frequently and still do because I often would compare myself to others. Tailor your list to yourself and make it things that you need to hear. You can also ask your loved ones to write you a list if you are someone who needs validation from others (and there is nothing wrong with that).

I have this phrase on a board in my room to remind myself that every day is a good day.

Changing your mindset on life is the first big step I took to helping me become happier. This was the start of it, but something I continue to do daily still. I hope this post has encouraged you to start making changes in your life regarding your mental health so you can life your best life.
